Bongi Perez, a hustler who rejects traditional femininity and mocks societal norms—especially those related to sex and gender—is the main protagonist in Valerie Solanas’s famous 1967 play Up Your Ass. In Nice to Meet You, Bongi Perez, a performance and video work staged in a public space, two characters perform the play in an urban setting, exploring themes of public interaction, identity, and the intersection of performance and reality. The work engages with concepts of seeing and being seen while critically examining the act of staging the self for the camera. Solanas’s work is known for its radical and feminist themes, challenging the status quo with its rebellious and in-your-face style.
